Romaine Mundle sends message as Sunderland blow confirmed
Romaine Mundle’s absence from training had caused confusion at Sunderland.
Last season was a difficult one for Mundle, who suffered a series of setbacks, hampering his ability to make any real progress.
When fit, he contributed massively to Sunderland’s promotion push and showcased just how good he can be on his day, with plenty of room to develop even further.
However, the pending arrival of Armand Lauriente sparked concern over his future after the winger was absent from training videos and removed certain things from his Instagram account.
With that in mind, he has since taken to social media to explain the situation.

Sunderland set to be without Mundle after surgery update
While fears of an exit have now been subdued, fears of his absence of now been heightened after the Sunderland winger took to Instagram to confirm that he had undergone surgery.
Hamstring issues had prevented him from kicking on last season, and it seems as though those concerns have carried through to pre-season, with his message one of heartbreak and frustration.

Via his Instagram, Mundle said: “Devastated to be here writing this message, and words can’t fully describe the emotions attached to this setback. Sometimes it’s hard to find the positives in situations like these, but without a doubt, I’ll be back better physically.
“Surgery was a success, and the road to recovery begins now. Although it has been a difficult period for me over the last few days, this is only a minor setback and I will be back better than before.”
Chris Rigg, Dennis Cikrin and Timothee Pembele have all taken to the replies to the post to share their best wishes for Mundle, who will be a big miss for Sunderland.
Lauriente deal now makes sense for Sunderland
When news broke that the Black Cats had agreed to sign Lauriente, questions emerged as to why Sunderland would need a third left-winger.
However, with Mundle set for a spell on the sidelines, and Simon Adingra likely heading to AFCON in December, it is clear as to why.
His arrival is expected to be confirmed in the coming days after he was spotted on a private jet ahead of meeting with his soon-to-be Sundelrand teammates in Portugal.
The hopes will be that Mundle can return early enough to have a big impact next season, with a date yet to be confirmed.
