Romaine Mundle return timeline laid out as Sunderland star pictured in training

Romaine Mundle is yet to make an appearance for Sunderland in the Premier League.

Sunderland head into the international break in ninth place, but also off the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Manchester United.

Several Sunderland stars will be jetting off to represent their country, while those on Wearside will get preparations underway for the home encounter against Wolves in just under two weeks.

However, one player who will certainly not be featuring in that clash is Mundle, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury that has stopped him from making an appearance this season.

Sunderland will have Romaine Mundle for selection soon

Mundle underwent surgery on a hamstring injury back in July, and that has prevented him from making any progress since achieving promotion with Sunderland last season.

It’s a similar injury that ruled him out for weeks towards the back end of last season.

Mundle was back in Sunderland training last week, though the likelihood is that he was partaking in non-contact sessions, in a bid to build his fitness up after the injury.

Now, injury expert Dr Brar has revealed when the former Tottenham youth star could return to action for the Black Cats, and it could be soon.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “It depends on specifics, but the typical return timeline is three to four months for return to matches.

“Then he will need a run of bounce matches to get to 90 minutes. I’d venture three or four matches at least to get back to 90 minutes of fitness.”

Based on the fact that Mundle had surgery in mid-July, it could see him return to the matchday squad by November.

Romaine Mundle was key to Sunderland last season

Mundle is an unknown entity in the Premier League, but if his performances in the Championship are anything to go by, he should have no issue adapting to life in the top flight.

Via FotMob, the Englishman created 26 chances in 22 appearances, with seven goal contributions to his name last season.

He completed 35 dribbles, which placed him in the top 21.1 per cent of players in the Championship for his position.

With Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi likely to be away for AFCON in December, Sunderland will need Mundle to be fully fit and in good form for that period.
