Roma want to sign Dan Neil after Le Fee developments at Sunderland

Sunderland’s productive season has meant that plenty of their players are now attracting transfer interest.

The Black Cats are currently occupying a Championship play-off spot, and are aiming for promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Sunderland’s young squad has drawn a lot of attention, with Dennis Cirkin among the players linked with a move away.

The Mackems also pulled off a coup in the January transfer window as they signed midfielder Enzo Le Fee on loan from Serie A giants Roma, but this may have slightly backfired for a key reason.

Roma interested in Sunderland star Dan Neil

Roma have been keeping a close eye on their loanee Le Fee’s progress at Sunderland this season, and they clearly like what they saw when watching.

Whilst Le Fee has caught the eye, one of his teammates has also wowed Roma, with Dan Neil also impressing alongside him at the Stadium of Light.

It has now been reported by Pete O’Rourke that Roma have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Neil this summer, as they were amazed when watching him alongside Le Fee.

Sunderland’s promotion push will determine what happens to Neil this summer, with the midfielder reportedly delaying any contract talks until the end of the season.

Neil likely to leave Sunderland this summer

Unfortunately for Sunderland, the level of interest in Neil means that he appears likely to leave this summer, regardless of whether the club returns to the Premier League or not.

The 23-year-old has made 38 appearances this season and is a crucial player for Regis Le Bris as club captain.

Neil’s contract runs until 2026, meaning that if he does not extend this summer, Sunderland will have to sell him to avoid losing the midfielder for free, but there is clearly no shortage of suitors.
