Roma set for further Enzo Le Fee windfall as Sunderland clauses revealed

Roma are set to bank more money for Enzo Le Fee after Sunderland’s Premier League survival was confirmed.

Le Fee was often the difference-maker in the Championship, but he has made the Premier League his own stomping ground this season.

The Frenchman leads the way at the Stadium of Light for goal contributions, albeit with a handful of them having come from the penalty spot.

Sunderland paid a reported club-record fee of £20million to sign the 26-year-old last summer, before that was then surpassed by the £30m arrival of Habib Diarra.

However, now that the Black Cats have officially avoided relegation, that fee is reportedly set to increase.

Sunderland set to pay Roma after Premier League survival

Had Le Fee cost the same as Diarra, it would still be labelled as a bargain, and it looks set to edge closer to being a reality.

That is because a report from il Romanista claims that the Black Cats are due to pay an extra £3.4m having confirmed their Premier League status.

If so, it would see the total fee paid for Le Fee rise to £23.3m, though Roma could still yet profit again.

The Italian outfit are said to have a 10 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the deal that saw him move to the Stadium of Light, which will almost certainly come into play if he were to move on.

Liverpool are one of the sides credited with an interest in the report, but if anything were to come of that, Sunderland would certainly make a substantial profit.

What is Le Fee’s contract situation?

Upon arriving at Sunderland, Le Fee signed a four-year deal, meaning he will still have three years left come the end of the season.

That leaves the Black Cats in a strong position to fend off any interest in the Frenchman, who is bound to attract it given the season he has had in the Premier League.

Granit Xhaka aside, there’s a case to be made that Le Fee is Sunderland’s most important player, and that would likely be reflected in any future asking price.
