Robinson backs Tottenham to sign Jobe Bellingham based on one Sunderland condition

Sunderland could be set to face further battles to keep hold of Jobe Bellingham in the summer transfer window.

The young starlet has been linked with a move away from Sunderland for some time with a number of high-profile clubs registered with interest.

Tottenham are one of those clubs who are said to be looking to gain his services at the end of the season and Paul Robinson has predicted that could be on the cards on one basis.

Robinson predicts Bellingham future

Bellingham has shown plenty of promise since stepping up to the first team with Sunderland and looks like he could be set to follow in the footsteps of his brother.

There is plenty of interest from the higher leagues both in England and abroad with it previously reported that should his services be wanted, Sunderland could expect a fee of £25million.

The 19-year-old is not out of contract at The Stadium of Light until 2028 meaning his current side have some flexibility in the way they operate going forward.

However, if Robinson’s prediction is anything to go by, Sunderland could be given a big decision to make at the end of the campaign.

Robinson told Tottenham Hotspur News that Bellingham could fit in perfectly at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if he was available in the summer as he said: “He would fit the mould of players that Tottenham sign. You look at what they’ve done over the years, even when they signed me. Young, English, on the fringes of the England team at the time. Me, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas, Michael Carrick, those types of players.

“And you look at what’s gone on through time, even Archie Gray as well. Jobe Bellingham would fit that category of type of player that Tottenham sign.

“Whether or not there is a huge shift in recruitment, if this season is a failure, if there’s no Europa League this season and Spurs end up 14th in the Premier League, whether there’s a huge shift in the boardroom and a huge change in the way that Tottenham recruit players, but they’ve always bought players that have got a good sell-on value at the right age.

“And for that reason, yeah, absolutely, he would fit that mould. But if he became available, I don’t suspect Tottenham would be the only one looking at him.”

Sunderland under no pressure with Bellingham

Given the talent he has shown so far, it’s certainly not surprising that every time a transfer window comes around, Bellingham is linked with a move away from Sunderland.

The 19-year-old possesses plenty of talent and it may well only be a matter of time until he leaves the Stadium of Light.

However, the Black Cats have the upper hand in negotiations currently given they have no reason to sell for less than they feel Bellingham is worth or any sooner than they feel suits them.

Sunderland sit fourth in the Championship this season and could well gain promotion to the Premier League which would undoubtedly change how the summer transfer window shapes up at the end of the campaign.

For now, the young talent is continuing to progress with Sunderland so there may well be no urgency from the player’s side to make a move away.

Similarly, though, Bellingham will have his ambitions high for the remainder of his career and Sunderland need to make sure they reap the benefits of that too.
