Robin Roefs shines, 3/10 dreadful – Sunderland player ratings vs Crystal Palace

Sunderland left Selhurst Park with a respectable point after an uneventful 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Regis Le Bris’ side recorded a stunning win over Brentford in their previous Premier League clash after a late winner from Wilson Isidor.

It was an uninspiring first half in South East London, with neither side able to land a shot on target.

The second half was a slight improvement, but a draw was probably a fair result for both sides in a forgettable affair.

Robin Roefs delivers trademark Sunderland performance

Robin Roefs thrived in Sunderland’s pre-season and has continued to impress when it matters.

The goalkeeper was signed from NEC Nijmegen during the summer window as an upgrade on Anthony Patterson.

Roefs was heroic against Brentford, saving a penalty that paved the way for the Black Cats to snatch an unlikely win.

In truth, the shot-stopper had little to do in the first half as neither side was able to land a shot on target.

However, in the second half, the Dutchman was called into action on a couple of occasions, delivering some fine saves.

Roefs had to get down low to deny Palace before pulling off a superb reaction save and one high to his left to keep the score at 0-0.

Wilson Isidor fails to take rare Regis Le Bris chance

As expected, Isidor was given the nod ahead of Eliezer Mayenda, who has not scored since the opening day.

The forward netted twice in the opening three Premier League games, with all of those coming from the bench.

However, the 25-year-old struggled to make an impact in the first half, although he was provided with little service.

His impact in the opening 45 minutes was summed up by kicking Chris Richards in the face, his most eventful action of the half.

In the second half, the forward was more involved and did finally manage to get off a decent effort on goal.

However, Isidor may rue what unfolded at Selhurst Park, leaving Le Bris with much to ponder ahead of Aston Villa.
