Robin Roefs open to transfer amid £50m Sunderland exit news

Chelsea are keen on signing Robin Roefs in the summer transfer window.

Roefs has been one of the signings of the season in the Premier League, and according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, his performances have caught the attention of Chelsea.

Nixon claims that the Blues are on the hunt for a new number one to replace Robert Sanchez, but a move for Roefs will depend on their ability to meet Sunderland’s valuation.

That is believed to be set at around £50million, which would represent a profit in the region of £39m after his move from Nijmegen last summer.

Roefs has kept eight clean sheets in the Premier League this season and has the third-best save percentage in the top flight.

Robin Roefs already open to exit after Sunderland heroics

Roefs has been a big reason behind Sunderland’s success on their return to the Premier League, even if their form has dropped off recently.

At just 23 years old, the Dutchman has already established himself as one of the best in the country, and it would come as no surprise to see several other European giants linked with summer moves.

Nor would it be a surprise to see him move on from the Stadium of Light in the summer, with the report claiming that both he and Sunderland would be open to a deal if the price is right.

The Black Cats’ success has come from their willingness to let players move on, as well as rebuilding the team with the profit made from sales.

That was showcased with the transfers for Jack Clarke, Jobe Bellingham and Tommy Watson, all of whom have moved on from Wearside over the last few seasons.

Sunderland’s succession plan could allow Roefs to leave

Sunderland have been excellent at replacing players before they have even moved on under the current regime, and with the signing of Melker Ellborg, they may already have their replacement for Roefs.

The 22-year-old is yet to feature for the Black Cats, but his stats from his time at Malmo showcase that he is likely to have the quality to fill the boots of Roefs if he were to leave.

Ellborg had an 83.3 per cent save percentage in the 10 games he played for Malmo this season, while also having a 75.3 per cent pass accuracy.

His quality is evident from his time there, and he will no doubt learn a lot from Roefs between now and the time he does move on.
