Rigg exit update as Chelsea one of five now in for Sunderland gem

Chelsea have emerged as one of five teams interested in signing Chris Rigg from Sunderland this summer.

The Mackems are attempting to gain promotion to the Premier League this season, but should they miss out, then there is a growing concern that the squad will be raided after certain players have shown their potential.

Jobe Bellingham is among that list of players, with interest in the midfielder growing within Germany, where he could follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude.

However, he isn’t the only Sunderland player who could be given the opportunity to join a new club, as Rigg is gaining huge interest.

Sunderland will struggle to keep hold of Chris Rigg

At just 17 years old, Rigg still has a lot of developing to do in the game, but he has shown huge potential since breaking into Sunderland’s first team at the Stadium of Light.

The midfielder has been undeniable this season and has played a key role in the Mackems earning a playoff spot.

However, Regis Le Bris will struggle to retain his services if they fail to gain promotion, as several Premier League sides are circling around him.

According to EvertonNews (26 April), David Moyes’ side are one of five teams interested in Rigg, who is being viewed as one of the hottest talents across Europe.

Moyes is hoping to sign some young, upcoming talent during the summer transfer window, but they are not the only interested party.

Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea are also contemplating bids for Rigg as they want to snap up the youngster while he’s at this stage of his career.

Meanwhile, there is also interest in him from abroad as Borussia Dortmund are monitoring Rigg, with the German giants being notorious for their ability to develop young prospects into global stars.

Sunderland will be able to offer regular football

The one positive that Sunderland have going for them is the fact Rigg is guaranteed regular football for them, whether they get promoted or not.

Playing weekly will be important for his development, which is why Everton aren’t being ruled out as a future landing spot for him, even though there are more glamorous options available to him.

The teenager came through Sunderland’s academy, and the Mackems would be hesitant to sell him if they were promoted.

However, if they cannot guarantee Rigg Premier League football next season, there is a chance he will go and find it anyway.
