Richard Keys rages at what happened in Sunderland win vs Brentford

Sunderland secured a massive three points at home to Brentford on Saturday, though it wasn’t without controversy.

Sunderland had to bounce back from their Carabao Cup defeat to Huddersfield, and they managed just that against the Bees.

In dramatic fashion, Sunderland secured a 2-1 victory against Brentford, courtesy of an Enzo Le Fee penalty and a late Wilson Isidor header.

However, there were several moments of controversy, one of which left Richard Keys raging.

VAR in full effect at Stadium of Light

While it was Isidor’s late header that led to incredible scenes on Wearside, there were several incidents in the game prior.

Sunderland had a penalty shout waved away for handball, not too long before Brentford had one of their own denied by Anthony Taylor, and in particular, Darren England, who was in charge of VAR.

Reacting to the failure to award the penalty, which was then given twice later in the game, Keys took to social media to rage at the decision.

He said: “Nailed on pen for Brentford at Sunderland – wrestling in the box. Darren England in VAR – the same England that gave [Manchester] United a pen last week.”

Brentford were then given one for a similar offence, with Keys saying: “Now they’re given one – for holding – but it’s saved.

Wilson Isidor provides serious headache for Regis Le Bris

Eliezer Mayenda has been the go-to striker for Sunderland this season, but that may have changed after the scenes produced by Isidor.

His late, late header secured a massive three points for the Black Cats and will have given Regis Le Bris something to think about over the international break.

Marc Guiu scored on his debut against Huddersfield, and with Isidor now with a second goal to his name in the Premier League, Mayenda’s place is under immediate threat.
