Regis Le Bris ‘will be delighted’ with what Trai Hume did away from Sunderland

Trai Hume was called up to the Northern Ireland squad having impressed for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland remain on course to achieve promotion back to the Premier League, and Hume has played a huge part in that ongoing success.

Traditionally known for his defensive capabilities, Hume has contributed just as much offensively, with one goal and six assists to his name in the Championship.

His form on Wearside earned him yet another call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for the March international break, and Le Bris we will be delighted at the way he has continued his progress on the pitch.

Hume excels for Northern Ireland v Switzerland

Hume has been one of the most consistent performers for Sunderland this season, becoming an integral component of the way Le Bris set his team up.

While the Frenchman will be hoping that his international players return injury-free, he will be just as hopeful that they are able to continue the form heading into the final eight games of the campaign, and Hume has done just that.

Via FotMob, Hume registered an 86 per cent pass accuracy in a game where Switzerland dominated most of the ball.

Defensively, he shined, winning five tackles in the clash, more than anyone else on the pitch, while winning 78 per cent of his nine ground duels.

Only one of his attempted tackles resulted in Switzerland retaining possession, an attribute which has been showcased throughout the season in the Championship.

The Sunderland defender made four clearances in the game and played a crucial part in earning his side appoint against him more than capable opposition.

Sunderland need Hume at his best

With eight games to go in the season, it appears as though Sunderland will have to face the prospect of the playoffs if they are to achieve promotion.

Hume will be integral to those hopes, especially given the injury to Dennis Cirkin on the opposite side.

Sunderland need to return to the form that brought them plenty of success in the earliest stages of the season and take as much momentum into the playoffs as they possibly can to give themselves the best chance of making a return to the Premier League.
