Regis Le Bris ‘to work wonders’ to seal Lauriente transfer at Sunderland

Sunderland are to embark on a transfer window like no other ahead of their return to the Premier League.

After windows of careful and considered low spending on younger talents, the Black Cats are expected to spend big this summer.

Jobe Bellingham and Tommy Watson have already exited the Stadium of Light, while Enzo Le Fee has joined permanently for a club record fee.

Now, Regis Le Bris is set to utilise his list of contacts to secure a second signing for the Wearsiders.

Sunderland make moves to sign Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente

Sunderland are favourites for instant Premier League relegation, although that will not faze them one bit.

The winners of the Championship play-offs always bear that burden, but the Black Cats will want to carry their momentum forward.

One way the North East club can aid their ambition is by signing smartly in the summer transfer window.

It had been previously reported that Sunderland were keen on Sassuolo’s Armand Lauriente, who is valued at £17million.

Now, the Wearsiders are in talks to sign the winger, according to Matteo Moretto (24 June).

He states that a source has shared that the Black Cats have enquired about Lauriente’s availability.

Furthermore, Moretto goes on to claim that the Serie B side are open to selling the 26-year-old and would not rule out an exit.

The Frenchman worked under Le Bris at FC Lorient during the 2022 pre-season before he signed for the Italian outfit.

Lauriente bagged 19 goals in all competitions as Sassuolo, like Sunderland, achieved promotion to the top flight.

Lauriente can challenge Romaine Mundle for place in Le Bris’ team

While Sunderland possesses some solid options in the final third, they need to strengthen for the Premier League.

Having sold Watson, Romaine Mundle is the only recognised left-winger in Le Bris’ team, and he needs to be pushed.

Therefore, a move for Lauriente would be ideal to give Le Bris more options at his disposal.

Mundle himself is a talented player and enjoyed a fruitful campaign despite a long absence through injury.

However, Lauriente’s numbers from the wing are frightening, and if he can replicate that in the Premier League, then Sunderland would have some player on their hands.

Of course, there is work to be done, but it seems the Black Cats are speeding up their transfer plans.
