Regis Le Bris to have Sunderland exit decision to make with interest imminent

Regis Le Bris is masterminding the Premier League story of the season at Sunderland.

Sunderland are bouncing after their 1-0 Wear-Tyne derby win over Newcastle United last weekend.

It was an electric atmosphere at the Stadium of Light, with Sky Sports presenter Gary Neville describing Sunderland fans as being incredible that day.

Sunderland’s next test is an away trip to Brighton this weekend, with Le Bris facing a team selection headache.

Sunderland are losing a host of key players to AFCON, which is going to challenge Le Bris and his coaching staff and push his squad depth to the limit over the festive and New Year period.

Sunderland cult hero Bolo Zenden drops Regis Le Bris future prediction

With Sunderland sitting eighth in the Premier League after 16 games, and just two points removed from a Champions League place, Le Bris is undoubtedly performing one of, if not the most impressive coaching jobs in the top flight this season.

Naturally, however, that has seen the Frenchman and his team capture the attention of the world, and there may well be a downside to that.

Speaking via the Sunderland Echo, Black Cats cult hero Bolo Zenden believes that Le Bris is sure to start being of interest to other clubs if he continues to take Sunderland on an upward trajectory.

“Yeah, but it also depends on what the manager wants himself, doesn’t it?” said Zenden on the threat of Le Bris being poached by another club in the future.

“At the moment, obviously, he’s riding the wave. It’s a good wave. Sometimes you get opportunities that come along and it’s a matter of putting things together to see if it works for you, yes or no.

“In football, you never know how long things are going to last, of course. I guess, in a sense, it’s the way with a player. If a player has a good season, someone might come in and jump to the occasion to go somewhere where you think you could test yourself again and see if you can also deliver on a different level. But yeah, of course – if you put down results, then it’s normal. Interest will come.”

Will Le Bris jump Sunderland ship?

It goes without saying, Sunderland are a huge football club, and despite their superb start to the season, it does feel as though the surface is still only being scratched at what could be achieved on Wearside.

All the infrastructure needed to compete for European football and silverware for many years to come is in place, and in Le Bris, Sunderland have a manager who looks more than capable of taking them there.

With everything that Le Bris and his side have achieved since he was appointed in June of last year, it can be easy to forget just how fresh the former Lorient boss still is as Black Cats boss.

Therefore, with European football of some form looking extremely attainable for Sunderland this season, and with an owner in Kyril Louis-Dreyfus who has proven his financial commitment to the club, it would surely take a very special opportunity for him to feel safe that the grass would be greener away from Wearside.
