Regis Le Bris shares what he loves about Brian Brobbey after what he saw in Sunderland win vs Burnley

Brian Brobbey is quickly becoming a fan favourite at Sunderland.

The striker arrived from Ajax in a reported £21.6million deal over the summer, and has made a huge impact up top for the Black Cats, despite his rather modest record of just five Premier League goals.

Sunderland defeated Burnley 3-0 on Monday to extend their unbeaten Premier League home run to 12 matches.

It would be an Axel Tuanzebe own goal, and efforts from Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi that secured the three points.

However, Brobbey put in another impressive performance at the Stadium of Light – prompting heaps of praise from manager Regis Le Bris.

Forming an instant partnership with the returning Diarra, Brobbey played a huge part throughout the 90, despite not getting on the scoresheet.

And Le Bris highlighted the traits he particularly loves about his striker.

“Brian is getting better,” Le Bris told the Sunderland Echo.

“I think game after game you can see how strong he is in this part of the pitch. I think his teammates now want to play with him, want to feed him,” added the Frenchman.

“When we get pressed man for man, for example, we still have this option to go long, then we can support and we can break the press. So it was really important today.

“He could have scored, maybe once or twice, but he worked really hard.”

Brian Brobbey is perfect for Sunderland’s ambitions

After an eight-year spell away from the Premier League, Sunderland fans were able to get excited again as players arrived from all over the continent – including Dutch giants Ajax in the form of Brobbey.

Since netting 18 goals and providing eight assists for the Amsterdammers in the 2023/24 term, Brobbey has been far from prolific – with just four Eredivisie goals last term, though his record is more than promising.

With Diarra’s integration following injury, Sunderland’s exciting signing of Nilson Angulo and the continued development of Talbi, Brobbey is a near-perfect option to have in the final third when it comes to his hold-up play and overall contribution.

Sunderland have a fantastic mixture of physical and technical qualities within their ranks – Brobbey most certainly fits the former. And for a side scrapping with a point to prove following promotion, the Dutchman is the perfect man to lead the line for Sunderland as they push for a European place.
