Regis Le Bris shares Chris Rigg fitness update ahead of Preston v Sunderland

Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Chris Rigg will be back among the squad for Preston versus Sunderland after missing out in their goalless draw against QPR.

The sought-after 17-year-old was missing from Sunderland’s squad at Loftus Road with a suspected illness with Alan Browne taking his place in the side.

A red card for Jobe Bellingham in the game provided concerns over who would feature against Preston if Rigg was to be unavailable again although Le Bris has confirmed he will be involved.

As reported by the Sunderland Echo, 4 November, when asked if Rigg would feature, he replied: “Yes.”

Chris Rigg return will soften blow of Jobe Bellingham absence for Sunderland

The red card that Jobe Bellingham picked up against QPR certainly hindered their Black Cats’ ability to get three points from the encounter but an expected three-match ban will weaken Le Bris’ side significantly.

Rigg was absent for the encounter at Loftus Road and immediately questions were asked as to how Sunderland would cope without the pair in the midfield.

Thankfully it doesn’t look like they will have to with Rigg set to return on Wednesday, 6 November.

Rigg has been impressive throughout the season, with three goals to his name from an advanced midfield position and his ability has earned interest from several English clubs with Manchester United reportedly the favourite to get his signature.

With Salis Abdul Samed still out injured and Milan Aleksic struggling to get to terms with the English language, Sunderland aren’t overly blessed with midfield options at the moment.

A trip to Preston provides an opportunity for the Wearsiders to get back to winning ways and to extend their unbeaten run to seven.

In other Sunderland news, Romaine Mundle embodied frustration in the goalless draw away at QPR on Saturday – and Tommy Watson may benefit from it.
