Regis Le Bris set for ‘further loss’ after what happened away from Sunderland

Regis Le Bris has Sunderland sitting in an excellent position as they look ahead to the play-offs with the hope of promotion to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, as the Black Cats look ahead to the summer transfer window, there could be worrying times ahead.

Tommy Watson is set to leave the Stadium of Light for Brighton, while Dan Ballard and Chris Rigg are also being linked with exits already.

Sunderland could lose another player in the summer

Whatever happens to Sunderland this season, they will have to be in strong shape to either retain a position in the top flight or push again for promotion from the Championship.

With that in mind, the boss will no doubt be feeling some nerves over those who are linked with moves away knowing that a high turnover could weaken his chances.

Le Bris could be set to part ways with another player in the summer, after what Michael Stewart said about Nectar Triantis.

The 21-year-old has spent the season on loan with Hibernian, where he has become a regular part of the team, making 29 Scottish Premiership appearances.

His impressive form led to Stewart being asked if securing another deal for Triantis to return next season should be a priority and speaking on Premier Sports (13 April), he replied: “It will certainly be one for them.”

Promotion could be crucial for Sunderland

It’s a tight race at the top of the Championship table, and anything can happen in the playoffs.

However, the outcome could have a massive impact on the immediate future in the North East, leading the Black Cats to lose more players.

It will be interesting to see what the priority is when it comes to Triantis’ future. Under contract until 2027, Sunderland could choose to sanction another loan exit for the season before making a long-term choice.

However, should other players exit, Le Bris could find himself ready to turn to the midfielder in a first-team capacity too.

Succeeding to such an extent on loan should fill Sunderland with plenty of confidence about the youngster’s talent but how they develop it now has to be the right move.
