Regis Le Bris provides Dennis Cirkin injury update ahead of Sunderland v Stoke

Regis Le Bris has confirmed that Dennis Cirkin will be available for selection for Sunderland on Saturday when they host Stoke City.

Cirkin has been absent for several games with a wrist injury that required surgery during the November international break but will be fit to face the Potters.

The Frenchman confirmed the news in a press conference on Thursday (5 December).

“We have many options now, probably the back four is the big strength for us,” Le Bris explained as quoted by the Sunderland Echo.

“We have many options, even with suspensions or injuries. Dennis is a good player and has played very well so far. If he’s available, that’s good for us.”

Dennis Cirkin return is a huge boost for Sunderland

Cirkin has comfortably been one of the best players for the Black Cats this season and his absence has been felt massively in recent weeks.

The Mackems have relied a lot on the fullback in transition and his wonder strike against Coventry earlier in the season was a testament to that.

His ability both offensively and defensively has been paramount to the successes that the Wearsiders have achieved so far.

With a six-game winless run currently weighing down on the shoulders of the Black Cats, a home encounter against Stoke on Saturday (7 December) provides a good opportunity to end that and get back to winning ways.

Sunderland still have every chance of achieving success this campaign and the regular availability of Cirkin could prove key to those hopes.

All being well, Cirkin will be expected to be straight back into the starting 11, especially with the recent suspension of Chris Mepham.

In other Sunderland news, the club could be set to benefit from a six-figure windfall.
