Regis Le Bris praises Sunderland ‘maturity’ after 1-0 win v Hull City

Regis Le Bris has praised the “maturity” of his Sunderland side after the 1-0 win against Hull City on Sunday 20 October.

The head coach has made a fantastic start to life on Wearside and the win at the MKM Stadium led the Black Cats back to the top of the Championship table.

Le Bris, in a post-match interview after the win, praised his side for the way they went about their game.

“We are happy to win away because it’s not easy,” he said. “Happy for our fans, and happy for the players because they worked hard to obtain that result. It wasn’t easy.

“We had a lot of possession and massive control of the ball and we were in the final third but we struggled to create chances and we had to face their counterattacks.

“This is still a young team so to manage this different moment, shows a bit more maturity in our game so happy about that because it will be very useful for the rest of the season.”

Sunderland are looking like promotion contenders

While it is still early days, Sunderland are continuing to show that they are a real contender to achieve promotion come the end of the season.

Currently top of the table, the Black Cats have already impressed in several games however their ability to win fixtures like against Hull, where the performance isn’t quite there, is a really promising sign.

Although the three points certainly included some controversy, it provided a chance for Le Bris’ side to start a winning run before the next international break in November and they took that.

It’s easy to forget how many key players are still missing from the squad as well. Dan Ballard, Eliezer Mayenda, Niall Huggins, and Aji Alese among several others have all been absent in recent weeks with the club still achieving positive results.

Consistency will prove to be essential for Sunderland heading into the Christmas period, to see whether they can maintain their position at the top of the table.
