View: Regis Le Bris must learn from Wilson Isidor failed Sunderland test

Wilson Isidor has found himself shifted out wide on several occasions for Sunderland despite his best performances coming as a central striker.

With the injury to Romaine Mundle, questions will be asked as to who occupies the left wing role for the Black Cats but it simply can’t be Isidor due to his value up front.

Le Bris has tested the idea of having the Frenchman wide, to make room for Aaron Connolly although it has failed miserably on both occasions and he cant afford to let it happen again.

Wilson Isidor is a striker at Sunderland – Not a winger

With five goals so far this campaign, Isidor has showcased all of the necessary attributes for a striker to excel at this level. Intelligence, pace and a clinical finishing ability. Why would you remove those threats by playing him wide?

When Mundle was withdrawn against Coventry, the sensible option seemed to be to bring Tommy Watson on, a natural left winger who has thrived at youth level in that position. However, Le Bris opted for Connolly and shifted Isidor wide.

The change completely unsettled Sunderland’s front line and it made it significantly easier for the Coventry defence to nullify any attacking threat.

Sunderland can’t afford to make the same mistake again, even if Mundle is to be absent for the remainder of the year.

All of Isidor’s goals have came while he was playing as the striker, his movement off the ball for several goals has been excellent and perhaps harshly, Connolly has failed to demonstrate that he is anywhere ready to impact the side, affecting Isidor in the process.

If Sunderland are to have a successful run after the international break, it starts with deploying your best players in their best positions and Isidor has to be leading the line.
