Raheem Sterling to Sunderland update from ex-manager – Exclusive

Raheem Sterling could emerge as a target for Sunderland as the summer goes on.

The former England international has seen his career stall since completing a move from Chelsea to Manchester City in 2022.

This most recently saw the 30-year-old join Arsenal on a season-long loan, where he failed to impress under Mikel Arteta, scoring just one goal.

The Stadium of Light could prove to be the perfect landing ground for the forward this summer as he looks to refind the form of his City days.

Sterling deal transfer questioned at Sunderland

Moving into the Premier League is going to be a difficult task, especially with winger options like Patrick Roberts and Romaine Mundle having to step up to the level in SR5.

This could see a move for the ex-Liverpool man make sense from an experience point of view, in a generally youthful-looking squad.

Suggestions have been made by Keith Wyness [Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, 18 June] that Chelsea could subsidise Sterling’s wages if he were to move to the north east.

With that being said, former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen has been left baffled by the prospect of a move for the Englishman by Regis Le Bris’ side.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, Allen said: “I wonder if Raheem Sterling would want to move up north to Sunderland.

He is extremely wealthy already.

Why would he move his family there to sign for Sunderland at this stage of his career? I can’t see it happening.

I think no matter what, Sunderland are going to find things particularly difficult.

Sterling to Sunderland deal slammed by Allen

It is fair to say that Allen isn’t sold on the idea of the attacker joining the Black Cats, and doesn’t believe he would welcome the move either.

Regardless of this, there is no doubt that the Stadium of Light has represented an excellent place to play football in recent years, attracting big names like Enzo Le Fee already.

As a result, Sterling could come in and provide a voice of reason and experience in the dressing room, that is, if he is willing to move up north this summer.
