Sam Parkin: Sunderland ace Cirkin ‘one of the most outstanding players’ in 24/25 Championship

Sam Parkin has labelled Sunderland star Dennis Cirkin as “outstanding” after an impressive start to the season.

The talented full-back has featured in every league game for the Black Cats this term and has impressed in every appearance, with a goal and assist to his name.

Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast (14 October), ex-Swindon forward Parkin was full of praise for the former Tottenham Hotspur academy prospect.

The EFL pundit said: “I think he has been one of the most outstanding players in the division this season. When you watch him live, he is a very good athlete.

“I think he gets up and down; it is eye-catching the way he moves with the ball, but his decision-making on the ball and his ability on the ball have been top-class this season.”

Sunderland must keep Dennis Cirkin fit

First and foremost, Cirkin is undoubtedly one of, if not the best left-back in the Championship this season and with his high-level performances many would find it hard to disagree.

Cirkin has demonstrated his ability to aid Sunderland on the attack but has also contributed massively to the five clean sheets Regis Le Bris’ side have kept.

Perhaps the only reason the full-back hasn’t been subject to heavy interest from clubs at a higher level is due to his injury record, which makes for fairly grim viewing for Sunderland supporters.

According to TransferMarkt, Cirkin has missed 52 games in his Sunderland career due to injury, a career which only started three years ago.

Thankfully for the Black Cats, Cirkin has remained on the pitch since the start of the current campaign as he looks to put his injury woes behind him.

With injuries to Niall Huggins and Aji Alese, Cirkin’s potential future absence could spell trouble for Sunderland who would not have a natural replacement.
