Preston reunion? Three clubs Alan Browne could join amid Sunderland dilemma

Alan Browne could be on his way out of Sunderland this summer.

While most of the focus so far this summer has been on incoming business at the Stadium of Light, doors behind the scenes will have also had to make some big decisions over the future of those currently residing on Wearside.

Doubts have already emerged over the future of Dan Neil, though Browne will likely be the first midfielder to be moved on, given his lack of involvement last season.

Regis Le Bris already faces a dilemma when it comes to picking his starting midfield, and it is hard to see any place for the Irishman in the Premier League.

With that in mind, Mackem News looks at three potential landing spots for the midfielder.

Preston reunion could be on the cards

Browne spent 10 years at Preston before making the move to Sunderland last summer.

The 30-year-old was a fun favourite at Deepdale, and if he is to leave Sunderland, a return to Preston may appeal to him.

However, with it reported that he had a pay rise to make the move to the Black Cats, he may have to take a deduction to seal a return.

Wrexham are looking to solidify in the Championship

Disney FC, otherwise known as Wrexham, have enjoyed a successful few years under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds.

Now in the Championship, the Welsh club are looking to solidify their status in the second tier, and there will be very few better options than someone like Browne to achieve that.

With over 400 appearances in the EFL, the Irishman knows what it takes to succeed, and he would likely receive a decent pay packet.

Portsmouth could turn to Browne after Nectar Triantis failure

Nectar Triantis was previously mooted for a move to Portsmouth, though those rumours were swiftly squashed.

However, Pompey are still in the market for reinforcements as they look to build on their first season back in the Championship.

Once again, Browne would be a perfect candidate to steady the ship in midfield for the Blues, who recently had Adil Aouchiche under their wings.
