Premier League to launch investigation after bizarre incident in Sunderland defeat vs Burnley
Sunderland fell to a poor 2-0 defeat away to Burnley on Saturday.
Goals from Josh Cullen and Jaidon Anthony drained the euphoria of an opening day win out of the Black Cats, with Burnley beating Sunderland 2-0.
Sunderland were not at the races, and despite Burnley having an early goal ruled out, they failed to take advantage.
However, while the Black Cats will have a lot to sit and think about after the defeat, the Premier League could be set to make inquiries into a very strange situation that unfolded at Turf Moor.

This article contains exclusive opinion from former FIFA referee Keith Hackett.
Turf Moor encounter halted by floodlight failure
Most of the attention will be placed on a poor performance by Sunderland, though the Premier League are likely to have ideas of its own.
Not long after the second half started, Turf Moor unintentionally turned into somewhat of a rave, as a result of flickering floodlights all around the ground.
The game has halted as a result while Burnley officials found a solution, which ultimately ended in the lights being switched off after a lengthy stoppage in play.
Keith Hackett, when talking exclusively to Mackem News, revealed that the Premier League will make inquiries into the incident.
He said: “It is likely that the television companies have requested the floodlights be turned on to ensure the transmission of good picture quality at this time of the year.
“It’s interesting that they have failed to operate. That will be the subject of an enquiry by the Premier League.”
Sunderland come unstuck vs Burnley
Not even a floodlight failure could prevent Sunderland from falling to defeat against Burnley, in what was a very underwhelming performance.
After Sunderland beat West Ham 3-0 on the opening day of the season, momentum would have been high, though they failed to take that to Turf Moor.
Regis Le Bris will know that level of performance will achieve nothing in the Premier League, and will be hoping his side can bounce back against Brentford, hopefully with the arrival of a few more new faces.
