Pierre Ekwah set for move to Scottish giants already after recent Sunderland exit

Pierre Ekwah’s exit from Sunderland was only confirmed in August, and he could be on the move again.

Sunderland have transformed their midfield this summer, which, as a result, has seen several players drop down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.

Alan Browne has been linked with an exit from Sunderland, while questions still remain over the future of Dan Neil ahead of Monday’s deadline.

However, the first loser from Sunderland’s midfield overhaul was Ekwah, who departed Wearside on 14 August, with yet another transfer on the cards.

Rangers want to sign Pierre Ekwah after Sunderland exit

Rangers were linked with Sunderland’s Nectar Triantis before his move to Minnesota, and the Gers have now turned their attention to Ekwah.

L’Equipe have reported on deadline day that the Light Blues are waiting to offload one of their current midfielders, before making an approach to sign the Frenchman.

Ekwah had a very good start to life at Sunderland, though Regis Le Bris‘ arrival on Wearside was ultimately the start of the end for him.

Whilst his technical ability was nothing short of outstanding, concerns emerged over his desire and work rate, which ultimately led to him falling out of favour.

Rangers will almost certainly be aware of that and will need to take it into consideration before making a move.

Will Sunderland make any money from Pierre Ekwah exit?

Sunderland sold Ekwah at a profit, but it is not believed that he has any sell-on clause in the deal that took him to France.

It remains to be seen whether the Ligue 2 outfit can make a profit on the midfielder themselves, though after a solid first season in Ligue 1, they certainly stand a chance.

Rangers have already added to their midfield with the signing of Joe Rothwell, who registered an assist in Sunderland’s late defeat to Leeds United last season.

The Scottish transfer window is open until 11pm on Monday night, allowing Rangers a few more hours to conclude any late deals.
