Chelsea star to sign five-year deal at Sunderland after £21.6m transfer update

Sunderland are making some serious transfer moves at the Stadium of Light.

Habib Diarra became Sunderland’s club-record signing this week, with the Black Cats confirming the midfielder’s £30million arrival from Strasbourg on Tuesday (1 July).

It is now expected that Noah Sadiki will follow through the door after completing a medical ahead of a £17.2m move from Union Saint-Gilloise, taking Sunderland’s summer spending to north of £60m already.

However, it seems as though the Black Cats are only getting started, as they now close in on a deal for a 25-year-old Chelsea star.

Djordje Petrovic to sign five-year contract at Sunderland

Sunderland need additions across several areas of the squad, but signing a new goalkeeper will be among the biggest priorities.

After missing out on the arrival of Marcin Bulka, the Black Cats have been forced to turn their attention elsewhere, and according to Sacha Tavolieri, they are close to a deal for Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic.

Writing via X (2 July), Tavolieri reports that Sunderland are close to sealing the transfer of Petrovic for a fee in the region of £21.6m.

Petrovic spent last season on loan from Chelsea with Strasbourg, playing with Sunderland’s new arrival Diarra, and looks set to sign a five-year deal on Wearside.

After such an impressive campaign in France, this would be another statement signing for the Wearsiders, who have already showcased their intentions this summer.

Sunderland have every chance of staying up

Sunderland are showing a remarkable level of ambition this summer, having often been accused of lacking it by rival supporters.

Should deals for Sadiki and Petrovic go through, that would be over £85m spent this summer, and there will still be many more arrivals expected at the Stadium of Light.
