Patrick Roberts sends nine-word message as Sunderland exit announced

Patrick Roberts has departed the Stadium of Light on deadline day.

A frantic summer is almost over, though Sunderland could still announce several more exits over the next 24 hours.

One of those confirmed to be on his way out is Roberts, who has joined Birmingham City on loan for the remainder of the season.

Now, after the announcement was made via social media, the Black Cats star has sent a message to supporters.

Patrick Roberts temporarily ends three-year stay at Sunderland

Roberts was tipped for the top by Lionel Messi years ago, and when you watch him with the ball at his feet, you can see why.

The ball is glued to his feet whenever he has it, though his final product has certainly caused frustration throughout his time at the Stadium of Light.

However, Roberts has always been a model professional, and had it not been for his magic, Sunderland would not be where they are now, nor would they be making the signings they have this summer.

After his exit was confirmed, Roberts took to his Instagram to say: “Good Luck with the rest of the season Mackems”, followed by two red and white heart emojis.

He will depart with nothing but the best wishes of those on Wearside, who are eagerly awaiting his replacement.

Sunderland set to sign Bertrand Traore

Sanctioning Roberts’ exit without a replacement would not have made any sense, though thankfully, that is not the case.

Sunderland submitted a deal sheet for the signing of Bertrand Traore, which is expected to be announced in due course.

It’s believed to be a deal in the region of £2.5million, which, for a player of his experience, is risk-free and a very good option to have as depth.

Sunderland added Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida to their squad on deadline day, and the expected arrival of Tarore will round off what has been a very successful end to a remarkably successful transfer window for the Premier League newcomers.
