Oxford boss makes ‘wonderful’ admission on Sunderland ace Wilson Isidor
Oxford boss Des Buckingham was amazed by Wilson Isidor’s goal that secured all three points for Sunderland.
Courtesy of a 2-0 win over Oxford (26 October), Regis Le Bris was able to retain his Sunderland’s side position at the top of the Championship, widening the gap from second to five points.
Jobe Bellingham opened the scoring but it was the second goal that impressed Buckingham as his side continued their winless run in away fixtures.
Speaking to BBC Radio Oxford after the game, in quotes reported by Sunderland AFC news, Buckingham said: “It’s a top team. They are in top form at the moment. Sunderland are top of the table for a reason.
“The first goal, a rotation down our left, which we didn’t manage. A cross into the box caught us. And then, the second one, we got caught trying to play out. And even then, you can’t take too much away from the strike.
“To get that type of finish, with the ball being played over your shoulder, it’s a wonderful finish.”
Sunderland have found a gem in Wilson Isidor
Each week, Isidor seems to find or do something that makes fans adore him even more. This week, it was a magnificent volley to double Sunderland’s advantage in the game and seal another three points.
His performances since joining the club have been excellent and the Frenchman now has four goals in six starts. To put that into context, that is more than the club’s strikers from last season managed combined.
Isidor has demonstrated his ability to score goals, something the club have lacked since the initial injury and then the departure of Ross Stewart last summer.
He offers a lot to the side as a whole. Pace, work ethic and a desire to do what is best for the club.
Isidor was seen singing with the home supporters after the game in high spirits, kissing the badge while celebrating his goal as well as just showcasing how delighted he actually is to be a Sunderland player. Arguably the biggest key to success on Wearside.
With Eliezer Mayenda, Aaron Connolly and Ahmed Abdullahi all waiting in the wings for a shot in the first team, Isidor is certainly making the position his own.
