Ortega to Sunderland: Transfer fee, salary and details about Man City star
Stefan Ortega could become Sunderland’s new goalkeeper this summer.
Sunderland are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, and with Anthony Patterson’s return date still unconfirmed, those plans are likely to be accelerated in the coming days and weeks.
Mackem News recently learned that the Black Cats had made an approach to sign Manchester City’s Ortega, who looks set to be replaced by James Trafford after an agreement was reached with Burnley.
At 32 years old, the German has a wealth of experience at the top level, and could prove to be a shrewd signing for Sunderland if they pursue a deal.
Sunderland to benefit from Ortega arrival
Ortega has been the understudy to Ederson throughout his time at Man City, though he has been afforded many chances to start and shine in his absence.
Via Capology, Ortega earns a reported £90,000 per week at the Etihad, and that may need to be reduced slightly if the Black Cats are to pursue a move.

City will almost certainly be willing to part ways with the goalkeeper, though it will have to be at the right price.
The Citizens signed the German on a free transfer back in 2022, and currently has a £6.9million transfer value according to Transfermrkt.
As for the fee needed to sign him, it will likely be slightly higher than this, depending on the level of interest in his services.
Who is Stefan Ortega?
Ortega was somewhat of an unknown before his move to Man City three years ago, having spent the rest of his career in Germany, and most predominantly with Arminia Bielefeld.
However, since his move to England, Ortega has made 56 appearances across all competitions, including 13 in the Premier League last season.
The German has typically been used as a cup goalkeeper for Pep Guardiola, and has been more than worthy of his place in his squad.
If Sunderland pursue this deal, and if they can pull it off, it would be a big upgrade on Patterson and provide a massive injection of experience.
