Omar Alderete out for another two weeks as Sunderland injury update emerges from Paraguay
Omar Alderete is set to be missing for Sunderland’s clash with Arsenal on Saturday, after undergoing further tests.
Sunderland will take on Arsenal at the Stadium of Light, with the Black Cats hoping to continue a sensational start to the season.
Regis Le Bris‘ side sit fourth after 10 Premier League matches, and will face the league leaders in Mikel Arteta‘s team on 8 November.
Arsenal are the favourites to beat Sunderland, who will have to face the Gunners without their summer signing in defence.
Alderete missed the Chelsea game due to concussion protocols, but the defender was expected to return ahead of the Arsenal game.

Omar Alderete set for further absence
Arsenal will be without Viktor Gyokeres for the Sunderland game, with the striker among several absences for the Gunners.
Noni Madueke, Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz have already spent significant time on the sidelines and will not be able to feature at the Stadium of Light.
And Sunderland have concerns of their own, with Dennis Cirkin, Romaine Mundle, and Habib Diarra among those ruled out.
Le Bris had hoped that Alderete would not join them, but Somos VS reported on Thursday that the Paraguay international is set to miss the Arsenal game and the international break with his nation after further tests.
The 28-year-old is still ruled out due to concussion protocol, which, as with the Football Association’s guidelines, determines that a player should undergo a six-stage return to play process after suffering a head injury.
When could Alderete return to action?
Sunderland will be pleased to see the arrival of the international break, which will allow Alderete to focus on his fitness and wellbeing ahead of a potential return thereafter.
A trip to Fulham will be the first match following the break, which the defender could feature in should he pass tests to determine his availability in the days leading up to the game.
| Sunderland – fixtures | Date |
| Arsenal (H) | 8 Nov |
| Fulham (A) | 22 Nov |
| Bournemouth (H) | 29 Nov |
| Liverpool (A) | 3 Dec |
| Manchester City (A) | 6 Dec |
Should Alderete need slightly more time, Sunderland’s clash with Bournemouth at the Stadium of Light on 29 November could be the game in which he returns.
The Paraguay international’s return will come as a monumental boost for Le Bris’ side, who have looked slightly less defensively stable in his absence.
