Omar Alderete joins exclusive club after what he did in Sunderland win vs Nottingham Forest
Florent Ghisolfi hit the jackpot with the signing of Omar Alderete at Sunderland.
Sunderland picked up another statement victory against Nottingham Forest this weekend, to continue their impressive start to life back in the Premier League.
The Black Cats have already picked up 11 points after just six games, with their defensive solidity a big reason behind that success.
Nordi Mukiele has taken the spotlight for Sunderland, but his defensive partner Alderete has been just as impressive, and he became one of a select few to achieve a specific feat in the latest win.

Sunderland have their own Paraguayan goalscorer
Alderete marked his Premier League debut against West Ham with an assist, and since then, the defender has gone from strength to strength.
His ball-playing ability has been excellent, and he has shown a level of defensive maturity that has aided the Black Cats significantly in the latter stages of games.
Alderete’s stats vs Forest
- 81% pass accuracy
- 1 goal
- 9 clearances
- 2 duels won
However, his aerial presence has been just as crucial, and that was the difference for the Black Cats in the win against Forest at the weekend.
Alderete scored the winning goal, and by doing so, he became the 10th Paraguayan player in Premier League history to score a goal.
Given his dominance in the air and Sunderland‘s threat posed from set-pieces, there will surely be many more of them to come.

Florent Ghisolfi is Sunderland’s biggest asset
Sunderland signed Mukiele and Alderete for a combined fee of around £20million.
As showcased by their early-season form, that is a resounding piece of business that paints the picture of just how important Ghisolfi is to this project on Wearside.
Just about every summer signing has hit the ground running, and aside from Granit Xhaka, who impressed again for Sunderland, their new-look defence is certainly starting to look like the strongest aspect of the team.
Sunderland still have a little bit of work to do in the forward areas, but their foundations at the back have set them up for what can be a very special season back in the English top-flight.
