‘Oh my word’ – Michael Bridges can’t believe what he saw in Sunderland loss vs Man United
Michael Bridges was left stunned by one Sunderland star in the opening half of their clash at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were massive favourites for their home clash with the Black Cats, in a game that proved fairly comfortable for the hosts in the end, with a 2-0 home win for Man United against Sunderland.
Mason Mount gave his side the lead inside ten minutes, striking the ball into the bottom corner under no pressure from the Sunderland midfield, before Benjamin Sesko doubled their lead.
The first half in particular was dominated by Ruben Amorim’s side, but it was a moment from one of Sunderland’s standout performers so far this season that caught Bridges’ eye.

Robin Roefs impressed despite Sunderland collapse
Sunderland were dreadful in the opening stages at Old Trafford, but Robin Roefs once again proved just how good a signing he was in the summer.
Roefs has been immense all season, and one save in particular sparked a reaction from Bridges, with Bruno Fernandes inches away from getting his name on the score sheet.
The Portuguese international found some space on the edge of the penalty area, not for the first time, and his curled effort looked as though it was going to nestle in the Sunderland net.
Had it not been for a miraculous save from Roefs, it would have been, with Bridges in disbelief at the athleticism on display from the Dutchman.

Commentating via the world feed, he said: “Oh my word, this is some save. And I’ll tell you what, it’s some attempt from Bruno Fernandes.
“The little turn here, he’s got four players around him. And he cannot believe that it has not gone in the top corner.
“The technique is incredible. But look at Roefs, he’s at full stretch. Fingertips here, and he comes to Sunderland’s rescue.”
Sunderland come unstuck vs Man United
Sunderland have defied the odds this season, but they very much looked like a newly-promoted team against Man United.
They struggled to keep the ball, and aside from an early chance for Bertrand Traore, failed to create anything in the final third.
Man United have some very good players, world-class even, but the Black Cats gave them far too much respect, and at Old Trafford, that is never going to end well, regardless of the situation the hosts are in.
This defeat will not define Sunderland’s season, but it may raise a few eyebrows as to how poor they were against a struggling United side.
