Norwich in place to pounce for Sunderland ace who featured regularly last season

Sunderland are set to lose multiple players before their return to the Premier League.

The Black Cats are preparing for a return to the top flight for the first time in eight years.

With the struggles of the newly promoted sides in the Premier League over the last two seasons, getting the transfer window right is crucial if Sunderland want to give themselves the best chance of staying up.

Naturally, most people’s attention will turn to who will be joining the club. However, there are set to be notable exits from the Stadium of Light, such as the well-documented transfer saga surrounding Jobe Bellingham.

Ex-Sunderland attacker to find new club after interest from Championship

Aaron Chungh was one of many players to be let go by Sunderland in the aftermath of their play-off final victory after not being offered a professional contract.

Chungh, 18, was a regular in Sunderland Under-18’s Premier League campaign last season, making 21 appearances.

Chungh managed five goal contributions last season.

Hull City offered Chungh a trial, but another Championship club are also interested in securing his services.

According to reports from the Sunderland Echo (8 June), the youngster has also spent time on trial at Norwich City.

The trials with both clubs are understood to have gone positively, with Hull and Norwich monitoring the forward’s progress before he potentially joins their developmental squads.

Chungh has yet to reach an agreement with either club as he continues to explore his options over the summer.

Sunderland need to focus on strengthening ahead of Premier League return

While it is always disappointing when a youth player leaves after being unable to break into the first-team setup, not every youngster will have the same success as Chris Rigg.

Rigg was sensational last season under Regis Le Bris, but the French manager will know that he will need to add experience to his ranks to avoid the drop.

Jordan Henderson’s return to the Stadium of Light seems to be edging ever closer, but this signing alone would not be enough.

Defence is also an area Le Bris will look to strengthen, as Sunderland face competition from Newcastle over the signing of a new full-back.
