Niall Huggins in talks to reunite with former Sunderland coach in Stadium of Light exit update

Niall Huggins could be moved on by Sunderland ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Sunderland are set for a busy end to the transfer window, with Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida expected to arrive at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland look set to part ways with Patrick Roberts, who has been linked with a loan move to Birmingham City.

However, Roberts may not be the only one to leave before 7pm, with a new update emerging on the future of Huggins.

Mike Dodds could be reunited with Naill Huggins as talks underway

Huggins has struggled with injuries at Sunderland, and the arrivals of Nordi Mukiele and Reinildo have pushed him further down the pecking order.

Reinildo was superb for Sunderland in their win against Brentford, while Huggins was a notable absentee from the matchday squad.

Now, Football League World have reported that the Welshman is in talks with Wycombe Wanderers, who took Mike Dodds from Sunderland last season.

It is believed that it would be a loan deal if the Black Cats sanction his exit, and he would become the 13th new arrival at Wycombe as they undergo a squad overhaul.

Sunderland still have a handful of exits to accelerate in the final hours, and this is one that would make sense as Huggins returns from injury.

Huggins featured regularly in Sunderland’s pre-season, but will almost certainly see limited gametime on Wearside if an exit does not occur on Monday.

Who could join Niall Huggins in leaving Sunderland?

Roberts and Huggins are the two main ones who have been linked with an exit on Monday, though others will almost certainly happen.

Nazariy Rusyn is set to depart the Stadium of Light, while questions remain over the futures of Alan Browne, Dan Neil and Dennis Cirkin.

The latter two have just one year left on their contracts on Wearside, and Sunderland could look to cash in if a good opportunity emerges to do so.
