Newcastle-supporting TV presenter royally stitched up as Sunderland transfer segment goes wrong

Sunderland had a very busy transfer window, making 15 signings to hopefully help them avoid relegation in the Premier League.

Deadline day saw Lutsharel Geertruida join Sunderland on loan, whilst striker Brian Brobbey completed a £21.6m move at the 11th hour.

Regis Le Bris has made significant upgrades in necessary positions all over the squad, and Sunderland are reaping the rewards at the moment, winning two of their opening three Premier League games.

In contrast, rivals Newcastle are winless this season, and have had a turbulent summer which eventually saw them sell star striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

Sky Sports Presenter makes Brian Brobbey howler

Presenting Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk show, Pete Graves was given a runthrough of the Sunderland segment before going live.

Graves was stitched up as he was told new signing Brobbey‘s name is actually pronounced “Brobbery”.

That left the pundits in stitches, as it took the Newcastle fan multiple takes to say the 23-year-old’s name without laughing.

Brobbey has had an eventful playing career, shining as a youngster in the Ajax academy, before a failed stint in Germany saw him move back to Amsterdam.

His goal scoring record in the last three years is fairly impressive, despite Ajax not winning the league since 2021/22.

Regis Le Bris must be thrilled to get the Dutchman through the door after Chelsea recalled Marc Guiu back to the club.

Sunderland fans will be hoping that their new front man can hit the ground running at the Stadium of Light.

Brian Brobbey could start over Eliezer Mayenda

It can be argued that Brobbey will wrestle the starting striker spot off Mayenda’s hands over time.

Mayenda scored in the 3-0 win against West Ham, and has started the season well, yet Brobbey is a different profile of striker.

At 6ft tall, he is very physical and aggressive when it comes to holding off defenders, whilst Mayenda is more of a speedy outlet.

Brobbey offers Le Bris a different option, one that could be particularly useful when Sunderland are being dominated in a match and they need a striker to hold the ball up.
