Newcastle fans ‘tragic’ after Sunderland stunt pre-Liverpool clash – ‘Obsessed’

Newcastle are preparing for a cup final with Liverpool, and yet Sunderland are still the focus for many of their fans.

Sunderland’s latest 3-0 defeat to Coventry City has certainly showcased the frailties on Wearside, though promotion remains on the cards.

A top-two finish looks like a distant fantasy now for Sunderland, but they are almost nailed on for a spot in the playoffs despite the defeat.

As for Newcastle, it has been a successful campaign, and with a cup final against Liverpool just hours away, you’d imagine they are fixated on coming home with the trophy.

However, it seems as though Sunderland remain at the front of their thoughts after an image that was shared on social media.

Newcastle supporters slammed after Sunderland obsession

Sunderland‘s rivalry with Newcastle is one of the most fierce in the country, though back-to-back relegations followed by several campaigns out of the Premier League has seen that rivalry somewhat subdued in recent years.

The only focus for the Black Cats is promotion, while it seems like Newcastle remain fixated on what happens on Wearside despite their own success.

One Newcastle supporter was pictured with a brand new flag of the Stadium of Light, with the sentence “Meanwhile in Sunderland, it must be a night shift at Nissan,” a dig towards the home support.

It’s fair to say that the Mackems cringed at the reveal, while supporters of other clubs were just embarrassed.

Sunderland only have to focus on themselves

If Newcastle supporters want to focus on Sunderland ahead of their biggest game of the season, so be it. However, those of a red and white persuasion will only be concerned with one thing.

Promotion is the only thing that matters for the Wearsiders, and what happens down the road is entirely irrelevant.

Heading into the final eight games of the season, Sunderland need to return to the form that brought them plenty of success throughout the majority of the season if they are to be successful in their bid to make a return to the Premier League.
