Micky Gray ‘like a kid at Christmas’ after ‘incredible’ Sunderland reveal
Micky Gray was full of excitement for one reason in particular ahead of Sunderland’s return to the Premier League.
Time is ticking away until Sunderland feature in their first Premier League encounter since 2016, though there is still plenty of work to be done in preparation.
Recruitment at the Stadium of Light will play a deciding role in the success that the Black Cats can find in the top flight, with Habib Diarra the latest to be linked.
However, the latest reveal sparked plenty of excitement on Wearside, and Gray echoed the sentiments of thousands in the North East.

Tyne-Wear Derby date revealed
Sunderland will host West Ham United for the season opener in August, and will end with a home encounter against Chelsea, though there was always going to be one fixture that people looked out for more than any other: the Tyne-Wear Derby.
Regis Le Bris’ side will host the Magpies on 13 December, before making the reverse trip to Newcastle on 21 March, and fans are already feeling the tension.
This clash is known for its fierce rivalry and immense atmosphere, and Gray was quick to highlight his excitement that these games will be back for the new campaign when talking live on talkSPORT (18 June).
Tyne-Wear Derby | W | D | L |
Sunderland | 53 | 49 | 54 |
Newcastle | 54 | 49 | 53 |
He said: “I mean, if you’ve never been to those games, I’m sure you’ve seen them on TV and you’ve obviously listened to them on talkSPORT. But it’s fiery, it’s electric, it’s the game that all Sunderland supporters and Newcastle supporters, probably this morning, after those pictures have come out, they’ll be talking about.
“So December and March are going to be really important months for Sunderland and Newcastle. Look, I think we’re going to be fighting at different ends of the table, there’s no doubt about that. We’re not silly.
“But I mean, they’re incredible to play in. At St. James’s Park, at the Stadium of Light, it’s just going to be absolutely electric, it really is. “

Sunderland can defy the odds this season
Almost everyone will have Sunderland nailed on for relegation, though the Black Cats have shown their ability in the past to defy the odds and prove their doubters wrong.
Surviving will be a huge task, but with the right recruitment and investment, it is one that is certainly achievable.
However, it is imperative that the Black Cats get the first aspect right, otherwise they will be at an immediate disadvantage heading into the season.
Those on Wearside will be keeping a close eye on developments at the Stadium of Light as the season edges closer.
