Micah Richards eats humble pie after what he just said about Sunderland win vs Wolves on Match of the Day

Sunderland moved up to seventh in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

The Stadium of Light has been crucial for Sunderland, as the Black Cats have recorded their best home start to a top-flight season since 1968-69.

Sunderland’s 2-0 win against Wolves on 18 October came as a result of Nordi Mukiele’s first goal for the Black Cats and a late Ladislav Krejci own goal.

The Mackems now sit 12 points above their 20th-placed opponents, taking another great step to securing Premier League survival.

Micah Richards praises Sunderland’s start to the season

Mukiele was outstanding against Wolves, driving up and down the right-hand side throughout the whole match.

Having joined for a fee of £9.5million plus add-ons, the 27-year-old defender has quickly become a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light.

The France international’s versatility has been key to Sunderland’s defensive success, and against Wolves, he moved to his familiar right-back position to allow for Dan Ballard to come into the team.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 19 October, Micah Richards admitted he was wrong about Sunderland at the start of the season.

He said: “I want to eat a little bit of humble pie as well, as I thought it would be difficult for them because of the amount of players they signed.

“They’ve done better than I expected, and long may it continue, because it’s a really good story.”

Regis Le Bris’ side are starting to get the plaudits they deserve, and huge praise must be given to the recruitment team for what they’ve done over the summer.

Florent Ghisolfi and Kristjaan Speakman deserve their flowers for the work they have done in the summer transfer window, as Sunderland reap the rewards on the pitch.

Nordi Mukiele an example of Sunderland’s brilliant recruitment

Mukiele isn’t the only case of Sunderland signing the right player; many new signings have impressed in the early parts of the season.

Granit Xhaka has been the signing of the summer, whilst Omar Alderete and Noah Sadiki have proven themselves to be invaluable.

Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi have impressed in spells, but the bottom line is that Sunderland’s defence has been able to cope with seasoned Premier League attackers.

Robin Roefs’ brilliance has also played a huge part in Sunderland’s success, and it’s quite clear that the fans are starting to fall in love with many of their new players.
