Eliezer Mayenda to achieve career first – Three Sunderland predictions for 2025-26 season

Eliezer Mayenda could be set to have a huge season in the Premier League with Sunderland.

After eight long years, Sunderland will make their return to the Premier League next weekend with a clash against West Ham at the Stadium of Light.

A sell-out crowd is expected on Wearside, as those of a red and white persuasion look ahead to what will hopefully be a rather promising campaign.

With that in mind, Mackem News predicts three things that will happen between now and the end of the season.

Mayenda to star for Spain’s senior team

Mayenda enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last time out in the Championship and certainly has the ability to do the same in the Premier League.

The Spaniard has had a troubled pre-season, but he has all of the attributes needed to thrive in the top flight.

If he can pick up where he left off, there is no reason why he can’t excel for Sunderland, and potentially earn his first-ever senior call-up to the Spanish national squad.

Regis Le Bris to go unbeaten vs Newcastle

As soon as Sunderland earned promotion to the Premier League, eyes were immediately fixated on the dates on which the Tyne-Wear Derby would take place.

The Black Cats will play host to their noisy neighbours in December, and it would not be too much of a shock to see them walk away with victory.

Sunderland have a significantly stronger squad compared to the one that fell to defeat against the Magpies in the FA Cup, while Newcastle could be set to lose Alexander Isak.

As of right now, Sunderland fans would most likely snap your hand off for a draw in both encounters, though they may be able to cause an upset on more than one occasion.

Sunderland to avoid relegation on the last day of season

‘Til the end’ was the slogan of the Black Cats’ play-off campaign, and it would be a shame to see it end there.

Sunderland showed that never die attitude in the Championship with a series of last-minute goals to get them over the line and back into the Premier League.

If survival is achieved with the last kick of the ball this season, it would perhaps top the emotional rollercoaster that the Wearsiders enjoyed just a few months ago.
