Max Dowman sends message to Chris Rigg after what he did away from Sunderland
Max Dowman and Chris Rigg are two of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.
Sunderland have had an international break to forget, with several players returning to Wearside with injuries that could potentially keep them out for a while.
Omar Alderete suffered an injury in a friendly for Paraguay, while Noah Sadiki reportedly sprained his ankle for DR Congo.
However, Rigg was away with England’s Under-19s, and what he achieved throughout the break received praise from Dowman

Chris Rigg scored in 7-0 win for England Under-19s
Rigg was a regular for Sunderland last season, though he has been forced to settle for more of a squad role at the Stadium of Light since their promotion back to the Premier League.
With that said, throughout that time, he has remained a regular for England’s youth side, and he featured in their 7-0 hammering of Wales’ Under-19s on Tuesday.
In fact, he scored the last goal for The Three Lions, with Dowman also on the score sheet, alongside several other bright English prospects.
Rigg posted on Instagram after the win, with several Sunderland and England stars replying to him.
Dowman and Trey Nyoni of Liverpool replied with a love heart emoji, while Matty Young, who is on loan at Salford, followed suit.
Sunderland need patience with Chris Rigg
Rigg has been in Sunderland’s squad since 2022, but he is still just 18 years old.
At that age, very few players are starting Premier League games, and for the teenager to have already played 98 minutes in the top flight this season is a showcase of the trust Sunderland have in him.
However, at 18, Rigg will make mistakes and will at times get bullied out of games; that is more than common at this age.
The Black Cats need to keep developing him, alongside several others who have shown a lot of promise at the Stadium of Light.
With Sadiki and Habib Diarra injured, he will get even more chances to prove himself in the Premier League, with some big games approaching.
