Sunderland must steer clear of David Prutton transfer advice 

David Prutton has highlighted a striker that Sunderland should sign in the summer transfer window. 

Right now, the only focus for Sunderland is achieving promotion; anything else can wait for the time being. 

Performances on the pitch have dropped off massively in recent weeks, with their embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Coventry City a showcase of their regression. 

The Black Cats are almost a shoo-in for the playoffs, and only upon the conclusion of them will they be looking ahead to the summer window.

Though one thing remains clear: they need to ignore the latest advice from Prutton. 

Prutton moots Lawrence Shankland signing at Sunderland

While Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda have impressed this season, the Black Cats will certainly need to make an addition in the striker department this summer. 

Lawrence Shankland has been linked with the Mackems, and Prutton claimed it would be a "good addition" for Sunderland [FLW].

The Scotsman turns 30 this year, and despite having played 25 league games, he has only been able to notch on four occasions.

While attacking reinforcement will be needed regardless of which league Sunderland are in, they simply need to steer clear of this one if they are to progress on and off the pitch.

Sunderland must focus on promotion

Until Sunderland know which division they will be in next season, nothing else matters.

Given the start they had to the campaign, and the fact several players would depart the Stadium of Light if they fail to achieve it, promotion is an absolute necessity this season for Sunderland.

Automatic promotion is a distant fantasy at this point, but success via the playoffs is more than doable if they return to the form that brought plenty of optimism to Wearside throughout the season.

Eight games remain in the Championship, and Sunderland need to find some momentum and form to ensure that they have as strong a finish to the campaign as they possibly can.
