Smith audibly sighs at Romaine Mundle footage live on Sky in Sunderland win v Millwall

Sue Smith was less than impressed with Romaine Mundle after one incident in Sunderland's home win against Millwall.

Sunderland secured an important three points in a 1-0 win against Millwall, with Trai Hume's goal proving to be the difference.

The Northern Irish international dispatched a magnificent volley into the bottom corner after a neat cross from Patrick Roberts, though Sunderland had many other chances in the game, including a missed penalty, their fourth in a row.

However, it wasn't the penalty incident that caught the attention of Smith, rather a moment in the second half involving Mundle.

Mundle didn't get end product right v Millwall

Mundle caused a threat throughout the clash with Millwall, but at times was lacking the decisive touch when it came to finishing an attacking move.

One of those occasions saw the former Spurs winger race down the byline, before wildly overhitting what appeared to be a shot, with Smith far from impressed with the lack of composure.

Speaking via Sky Sports News (29 March, 4:05pm), Smith said: "Mundle picked the ball up for Sunderland on the left, and it's a lovely little step over. He's up against Crama, step over, takes it onto the outside on his left foot, but it goes out for a throw in," before letting out a audible sigh.

"I thought it was closer than it actually was, but it does go out for a throw-in."

As has been the case for many of their encounters this season, the Black Cats missed some golden opportunities in the game and had it not been for an excellent block on the line by Chris Mepham at the end, they very well could have been forced to rue those missed chances.

Sunderland need to keep building momentum

Promotion remains in sight for Sunderland, though it does appear as though it will have to be achieved via the playoffs.

However, there is still a massive need for results between now and the end of the campaign, with momentum just as important as anything else.

Sunderland need to treat each remaining game as a cup final, and while unlikely, who knows what could happen in the race for a top two finish.
