Hull City next manager: Ex-Sunderland boss in running to replace Ruben Selles

Sunderland supporters cannot be blamed if they are still celebrating their defining play-off final victory over Sheffield United.

Regis Le Bris masterminded the Black Cats' 2-1 win, making pivotal substitutions at the right times at Wembley Stadium.

Not much was made of the Frenchman when he took over, and he has surpassed all expectations and then some.

Now, it seems that one of Le Bris' predecessors could return to management and is in the running for the Hull City job.

Hull consider former Sunderland manager

The Black Cats and the Tigers have experienced contrasting seasons, despite Hull defeating Sunderland in late February.

Hull have endured a rotten campaign with a wealth of supporters blaming the owners for the Yorkshire club's demise.

The Championship side finished the 2023/24 season in a remarkable seventh position thanks to the good work done by manager Liam Rosenior.

However, Tigers owner Acun Ilicali baffled fans by sacking him, referencing the style of play as one of his reasons.

It is safe to say that decision did not pay off, and the Yorkshire club are now searching for their fourth manager in under a year, having sacked Ruben Selles.

Selles secured Hull's Championship status

Former Sunderland manager Michael Beale has emerged as a possible candidate to take over at the MKM Stadium.

The 44-year-old is the third favourite for the job, with odds of 12/1 for him to take the Hull hotseat, according to BetVictor.

Beale is currently the assistant manager at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq and has not managed since leaving the Stadium of Light.

Beale must prove worth with Championship job

The proposition of Beale's appointment would likely divide Hull supporters, given the job he did on Wearside.

However, during a short spell with QPR, he showed potential before he hopped over to Rangers in lightspeed.

Whatever manager position he takes next, if he does, will be a defining one, as he must salvage his damaged reputation.

Public opinion of him is poor, but he has always backed himself in difficult situations.

The Hull job would be no afternoon stroll, but if Beale is up for the fight, it could re-launch his managerial career.
