‘Masterclass’ – Alan Shearer blown away by what Sunderland star did in Aston Villa draw
Sunderland emerged with plenty of positives from their draw against Aston Villa.
Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa saw the Black Cats retain their unbeaten home run since returning to the Premier League.
Wilson Isidor scored the equalising goal in the final 15 minutes of the game, after Sunderland were reduced to ten men when Reinildo got sent off.
However, while many have praised Isidor for his display against Aston Villa, Alan Shearer highlighted one of the other stars who played a significant role yet again.

Nordi Mukiele shines once again for Sunderland
Since arriving from PSG, Nordi Mukiele has been exceptional for Sunderland, and it was no different on Sunday afternoon against Aston Villa.
The Frenchman won most of his defensive duels, but also contributed plenty in other areas of the game, including going forward.
It was his pass that led to Omar Alderete hitting the bar in the second half, with three chances created in total throughout the game.
As a result, Shearer has named the Frenchman in his Premier League Team of the Week.
On his inclusion, Shearer said: “Only his third Premier League appearance, and with his side down to 10 men after 33 minutes, Mukiele produced a defensive masterclass against Aston Villa as Sunderland earned another impressive point.”
A ‘masterclass’ is certainly the right word to use to describe his performance, and if he can replicate that throughout the season, Sunderland may have one of the best centre-backs outside of the top six.

Nordi Mukiele’s game vs Aston Villa
As mentioned, Mukiele actually created three chances against Aston Villa.
However, what is even more impressive is the fact that he created more chances in the first half than the entire Villa side did, despite playing the last 15 minutes against 10 men.
Via FotMob, Mukiele won 75 per cent of his four aerial duels and four of the six on the ground.
The 27-year-old made 12 clearances in the game, with a further three tackles and one block to keep the visitors at bay.
You can copy and paste this for nearly every summer signing, but Sunderland really do have a gem here.
