Marc Guiu transfer delay could open door for Garcia at Sunderland

Marc Guiu was supposed to be on Wearside for a medical ahead of a loan move to Sunderland.

Sunderland have made no secret of their intention to bolster their forward line this summer, having been linked with several targets.

An agreement was reached with Chelsea for Guiu to move to the Stadium of Light on loan, with a medical booked in for the Spaniard.

However, it was reported on Sunday (3 August) that his flight to the North East had been cancelled, presumably due to weather conditions, but it may have opened a new door for the Black Cats to take advantage of.

Gonzalo Garcia could leave Real Madrid on loan

Sunderland were linked with a move to sign Gonzalo Garcia, though Real Madrid expressed a reluctance to let him go after his displays in the Club World Cup.

However, a report from Fichajes (3 August) states that a loan exit is now looking likely for the forward, with Leeds and Sunderland showing an interest.

If that is to be the case, Sunderland may have reservations over the deal to bring Guiu to Wearside, though it may depend on how much encouragement is presented to them from Garcia.

It remains to be seen if these plans change, though it is clear that they need to sign a new striker imminently, to have them ready for their return to the Premier League.

Sunderland still have work to do

A striker, centre back and a versatile forward are going to be three crucial additions for Sunderland before the transfer window closes in September.

The absolute top priority will be to land some new defensive arrivals, given the fact that it is the one area of the squad that has barely been looked at as of yet.

Time remains on the side of the Black Cats, but it won’t be long until concerns start to grow if these areas aren’t bolstered with new additions.
