Manchester United look at Sunderland star Anthony Patterson – report
Manchester United are eyeing a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
The online report (3 December) states that Man Utd are “assessing their goalkeeping options” with a possible departure for second-choice Altay Bayindir.
It is reported that Patterson is seen as a younger alternative to Tom Heaton, with Tottenham also showing an interest.
Sunderland cannot afford to sell Anthony Patterson
Albeit winless in their last six, the Black Cats are still just as much in the race for promotion as anyone else in the Championship.
A missed penalty in their recent encounter with Sheffield United proved costly as the Mackems fell to a 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane, ending their impressive unbeaten run.
With that said, those promotion hopes will hinge on their ability to strengthen the squad and perhaps most importantly, retain their best talent in January.
Don Goodman previously claimed that Sunderland should not be selling their key players in January and it is a sentiment that seems shared across Wearside and rightfully so.

With respect to all other sides, the division isn’t the strongest and Sunderland have put themselves in an excellent position to go on and achieve something at the end of the campaign.
However, that potential achievement needs to be matched with ambition and the consideration of a sale of any of their players would be a complete disregard for that ambition and significantly weaken their chances.
In other Sunderland news, the FA Cup could provide a six-figure windfall on Wearside.
