Manager speaks out as Wilson Isidor delays massive decision away from Sunderland

Wilson Isidor has surprised many with his early-season impact for Sunderland in the Premier League.

The striker went 12 games without a goal at the end of the Championship campaign, but already has three in the Premier League.

Isidor bagged the equaliser against Aston Villa, meaning that he already has three goals this term, including two winners.

Now, Isidor is biding his time on a key decision that would change the course of his international future.

Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor yet to make decision on international future

Reports emerged during the international break that Isidor had given verbal consent to join Haiti in October.

The 25-year-old is a French citizen and has represented the international team at four different youth levels.

However, Isidor is of Haitian descent through family heritage and has not represented the French national team, meaning he is free to represent Haiti.

While October has arrived, the forward is still waiting to decide on whether to join the Grenadiers, according to journalist Caleb Jephte Pierre on 30 September.

In Tuesday’s press conference, their coach, Sebastien Migne, stated that he understands the Sunderland striker’s situation.

With the next international break looming, a decision on Isidor’s international future is imminent.

Have any Premier League players represented Haiti before?

Isidor made history against Aston Villa by becoming the first Sunderland player to score in three successive home games since Darren Bent in the 2010-11 season.

If he were to represent Haiti, then he would become the first Black Cats player to play for the country in its history.

However, the 25-year-old would not become the first Premier League player to do so as Wolves’ Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has made two appearances for the North American country.

Haiti have a rare chance of reaching the 2026 World Cup, having drawn their first two qualifiers against Honduras and Costa Rica.

The only time they reached the competition was in 1974 when they lost all their group games to Italy, Poland, and Argentina.

With Isidor in their ranks, it would surely boost their chances of reaching the grandest competition.
