Man City vs Sunderland result predicted by supercomputer

A trip to the Etihad beckons for Sunderland off the back of their draw against Liverpool.

Sunderland will be looking for their first-ever win at the Etihad when they travel to face Pep Guardiola’s Man City on Saturday.

The Black Cats have an excellent record against the sides at the top of the Premier League since their return to the top flight, but their ability to maintain that will really be put to the test on this occasion.

City secured a 5-4 victory against Fulham just days after a narrow win against Leeds, and Sunderland are the ones who will be looking to inflict their first defeat in December.

Man City expected to beat Sunderland

Sunderland have already proven people wrong with several of their results this season, and their 1-1 draw away to Liverpool was no different.

The Black Cats have secured a point against Arsenal, the current league leaders, Crystal Palace, last year’s FA Cup winners, and three points against Chelsea, the current world champions.

In that regard, Man City seem fairly inadequate, though that certainly isn’t reflected by Opta‘s supercomputer’s latest prediction.

Man City have a remarkable 73.6 per cent chance of victory against the Black Cats on Saturday, with Sunderland the clear underdogs.

Regis Le Bris’ side have an 11.1 per cent chance of taking all three points, which is the lowest for any side in the Premier League this weekend.

Sunderland must repeat Leeds United trick from 2021

Not only have Sunderland never won at the Etihad, but their last victory away to Man City was back in 1981, 44 years ago.

That’s a clear indication of the task at hand, though the fact that City have won 24 of their last 26 encounters with promoted sides also demonstrates how the Black Cats need to be at the top of their game to avoid becoming another statistic.

Their last defeat against a promoted side was back in 2021, when Leeds United secured a 2-1 victory courtesy of a Stuart Dallas brace.

That was despite the Whites playing the entire second half with 10 men.

A repeat of that result would be remarkable for Sunderland, who could move up to fourth with a win.
