Luke O’Nien sends thank you message after what happened in Sunderland win vs Forest
Luke O’Nien has been one of the most important players for Sunderland over the last few years.
Sunderland secured a statement 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the weekend, which momentarily took them up to third in the Premier League.
Many had questioned how well the Black Cats would adapt to top-flight football, but so far, they have passed the test with flying colours.
However, only a handful of those who featured regularly last season have had a part to play so far in this campaign, with O’Nien one of those yet to make an appearance.

Sunderland have Luke O’Nien available again
O’Nien is a fan favourite at Sunderland, and his ability on the pitch is only half of the reason why that is the case.
However, after dislocating his shoulder in Sunderland’s play-off final victory against Sheffield United, the 30-year-old has been out of action.
On Saturday, he returned to the matchday squad for the first time since then and was named on Sunderland’s bench.
After a long injury lay-off that has kept him out of action for four months, O’Nien took to social media to thank those who played a role in his recovery,
He said: “Big thanks to my family, physios, staff, and teammates for all the support these last 3 months. Feels amazing to be back on match days with this incredible team and make my first Premier League bench.”

Luke O’Nien has a serious challenge to face now
O’Nien was always one of the first names on the teamsheet for Sunderland last season, though it will not be as simple as that this season.
Nordi Mukiele has been outstanding for Sunderland, alongside Omar Alderete, who scored in the Black Cats’ win at the weekend.
Adding Lutsharel Geertruida to the conversation, it will be remarkably difficult for O’Nien to break back into the side, though, as he has showcased in the past, he has a tendency to prove his doubters wrong.
Whether it be in defence or potentially in a deeper midfield position, the Englishman will certainly have a part to play at some stage.
Sunderland have some excellent depth for the Premier League this season, and O’Nien’s return will only add to that.
