It has been seven years since O’Nien made the move to Wearside, and every minute of his spell has been a breath of fresh air.
He arrived as an unknown, but his character was clear from the start, and it is the sole reason he will be lining up in the Premier League this season.
Gone were the days of mercenaries; there was a new man on the block, and he was prepared to sacrifice whatever it took to thrive at Sunderland.

Perhaps the better question will be where won’t he play this season?
