Luis Suarez has ‘gentleman’s agreement’ as Sunderland eye sensational swoop
Sunderland are wasting no time preparing their squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Habib Diarra became the Black Cats’ second signing of the summer on Wednesday for a record fee.
On top of this, Sunderland are edging closer to the signing of Dorde Petrovic from Chelsea.
Now, Regis Le Bris is eyeing attacking reinforcements as they look to sign Luis Suarez from UD Almeria.

UD Almeria will only accept a proposal that Suarez wants
With Sunderland on the lookout for a clinical striker, Suarez could be exactly what they need.
The 27-year-old shone in the Spanish second tier last season, where he netted 27 goals in 41 matches in the division.
Unfortunately, this was not enough to secure promotion to La Liga, and speculation has begun around his future.
Diario de Almeria (2 July) has reported that Sunderland have expressed interest in signing Suarez, with Sporting CP also in the race.
The latter club believe Almeria’s asking price of £21.6 million is excessive, while the Black Cats are willing to get very close to these demands.

Nevertheless, Suarez and Almeria reportedly have a “gentleman’s agreement” to only accept offers that are in the player’s best interests.
The outlet reports that the Colombian international favours a move to a Champions League club, which could allow Sporting CP to become the frontrunners.
However, teams in Turkey and Italy are also interested, with a move to Saudi Arabia yet to be ruled out.

Suarez would be a risky signing for Sunderland
If Sunderland wants to invest in a new attacker this summer, they must bring in someone who is proven in Europe’s best leagues.
Suarez has regularly struggled when he has been in La Liga, and he only netted six times when Almeria were relegated in 2024.
Therefore, it would be a massive risk for Sunderland to splash £21.6m on a striker who has only had one good season.
Hopefully, Le Bris will reevaluate his options before making a bid to bring Suarez to the Stadium of Light.
