Regis Le Bris makes Sunderland promotion admission

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has claimed that his side “will need 90 points” to taste success at the end of the Championship season.

The Black Cats have already made a remarkable start under the Frenchman, having accumulated 28 points in their opening 12 games.

With an unbeaten run intact at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats have made the perfect start to achieving their ultimate goal of promotion although Le Bris was eager to play down any excitement at this early stage.

In his press conference posted on Sunderland YouTube account (31 October), he said: “We will need 90 points and 30 victories. It is a good start but nothing else.”

Sunderland are showing all the right signs for promotion

While eye-catching performances always get conversations going, a team’s ability to grind results is often key to their chances of promotion and Sunderland have done that when required.

Their win against Luton was a prime example where the game wasn’t pretty, but they came away with all three points.

Results like that are the reason why Sunderland find themselves five points clear at the top of the Championship with no signs of slowing down.

As Le Bris alluded, a good start doesn’t mean an awful lot. Results have to remain consistent and Sunderland have to keep picking up points.

28 points from 12 games is an excellent return but things can change very quickly in such a competitive league and Le Bris’ side must remain grounded and take each game as it comes.

A trip to QPR is on the horizon for the Black Cats who could extend their advantage at the top to eight points with a win.

In other Sunderland news, Le Bris could rest Chris Rigg when his side travel to face QPR on Saturday, 2 November.
